 WHAT IS SOCIAL MEDIA 

Collectively Social Media platforms can be referred to as a person's Socials, SM, or by the media platform brand name ie. FaceBook, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest, Twitter, and so many more. You may have heard people talking about these online places and may want to know more.

Social media is a collection of Internet media platforms that over time have become very popular among the general population, businesses, institutions, and even our Libraries who have become followers on various Social Media Platforms (AKA Sites/Pages).

‘Language you use when talking about these sites can tend to change slightly with each. Comments on one site become posting on another which is also tweeting on yet another. The commonality is that they all enable the individual to interact with the wider world, with like-minded people, allowing for a reciprocal flow of information in real-time, through verbal, and written communication but also by uploading various forms of media to share one, or many simultaneously. 

We will look at various Social media platforms, and any benefits and/or risks associated with accessing Social media generally.
