Hi,  My name is PamelaP and I have created this blog in the hope it may assist seniors in the community to gain a greater understanding of Social Media, how to create an account, some of the benefits, along with some of the associated risks.   I found that some people needed to be able to access information in a self-paced manner that they are able to refer back to. Hence, this blog, and I hope it helps to improve your awareness of Social Media and t he learning outcome you hope to achieve.   CONCLUSION  This has been a brief introduction to " What is social media for seniors" .  We have looked at just a few    WHS issues    Examples of social media and what value each may hold and the b enefits of social media for seniors have been identified. Directions for Social media registrations and login have been provided along with videos to assist you through the process should you require it. Social media is a collection of Internet media platforms that over time have become very popular among the general population, businesses, institutions, and even our Libraries who have become followers on various Social Media Platforms (AKA Sites/Pages). ‘Language you use when talking about these sites can tend to change slightly with each. Personal privacy issues Many scams - Seniors are at greater social media risk because  they are targeted by identity thieves, scammers, and potential abusers . Criminals know that older people tend to be more polite and trusting, so they're more likely to be swindled by an urgent-sounding message or a seemingly friendly contact. Following other users who may be posting inappropriate   content, you’re not aware of. Risks of being hacked.🔺 Marketing messages and Marketing Scams - always be aware

  W H & S issues for Seniors to be aware of when using the Computer or other devices. Keep both feet flat on the floor or on an ergonomic footrest. Avoid neck and wrist strain by ERGONOMICALLY appropriate placement of devices. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c0/Computer_Workstation_Variables_cleanup.png Always use appropriate supportive seating preferably on castors and check the height of the desks. Resist the urge to spend too long sitting at the computer without taking a break. You need to get up and move about at least every 20-30 minutes, even if it's just to do a few stretches.  Always keep cords away and if this is not possible cover them with tape or a heavy mat .
